It’s miserable and cold outside. I know I keep going on about it, but it really is! If you find yourself wearing a lot of black and dark colours at this time of year why not try adding a splash of brights and see if it lifts your mood?

You don’t have to rush out and spend lots of money to dip a toe into the world of colour. Here’s a few inexpensive ideas to try it out!

  • Buttons and Bows.

Most people buy their winter coats in sensible, non dating, practical colours like black, grey and navy. I completely understand the thinking, but it costs next to nothing to jazz up your coat with new buttons, and you can change them every year if you like!

Try these unusual green ones, at just 42p each from Ribbon Moon.

They’ve got a whole range of shaped and coloured buttons for next to nothing, as well as ribbon, bindings and motifs that you can use to jazz up your wardrobe if you’re feeling crafty.

  • Accessorize

I’ve mentioned this website before, but Love Colour Love Tights are great for tights in any colour or pattern you could possibly think of.

Block colour looks like being a big Spring / Summer trend, so why not get yourself a scarf or a pair of gloves in a bright block colour that you can continue wearing with a jacket into spring or as a shawl on chilly winter evenings. Scour Ebay for some good bargains like these hot pink leather gloves that are just £4.99 at the moment!

  • Kiss and Make Up

One of the easiest and cheapest ways to brighten up your day is with lipstick. Try a bright red instead of your normal neutral pink.

If you’re a bit more adventurous try coloured eyeshadow. Deep greens and purples can be surprisingly flattering! Try a brand like Collection 2000 or Barry M to experiment without breaking the bank. Barry Ms Dazzle Dust comes in some amazing bright colours and costs just £4.50. Try using a thin wet brush to draw a fine line along your upper lashes if you’re not confident splashing it all over!

Just remember, it’ll soon be Summer, in fact if you believe the  amount of Chocolate Eggs in the shops it’s Easter already!

Couldn’t agree more! Have bought a delicious banana yellow top with a retro “Slush Puppie” logo on, and am wearing it now to brighten up my day. It makes me smile…..

Hehe great minds think alike! I posted about adding colour to a neutral wardrobe as well. I’m a HUGE fan of coloured eyeshadow (I’ve been rocking the azure blue ‘Birdy’ shade by B lately). Your idea of switching up buttons on coats is really neat. :)

Bourjois do brilliant coloured eyeshadows too. I’ve been using them for years, they’re great used with a wet brush for a real POP of colour!
