Lust-worthy Luggage

I travel a lot (only in the UK, my life lacks international jetsetter glamour) and everywhere I go I drag with me a bland, boring navy blue suitcase on wheels.

I have been looking for the perfect luggage for years. Something with a retro style, a bit interesting, but with the modern conveniences of things like wheels as I will insist on packing carefully exactly what I need, and then throwing everything else I own in on top.

I also want it to be cheap.

I suspect I am probably onto a loser with this check list, but there is some gorgeous luggage out there and one day, when I am rich, I shall ditch my dull navy navy wheelie bag for something classy and chic and contemporary with a retro twist.

For a weekend City break or an overnight stay a smaller shoulder bag is ideal for stashing your essentials.

I’d love this Camel leather bag from Sandstorm Kenya, handmade by local craftsmen with sustainably farmed camel hide. At £475 I suspect that this is but a distant dream. A more affordable alternative is this Hidesign Hunter Holdall from John Lewis. Its still £195, but that’s less than half the price of the Camel leather.

For longer trips a suitcase is an essential. I’m forever seeing those gorgeous 1950s and 60s suitcases with retro styling and little clip fasteners in Cahrity Shops and at Boot Fairs, but I really want wheels on my bag. I know I’m horribly lazy, but that’s just how it is.

I’m in love with the Samsonite Black Label Vintage Collection. It has retro styling, including an adjustable leather buckle belt around the middle and comes with gorgeous details like shoe bags and internal compartments to make packing, and unpacking, a dream. The case here is £415, but how much more pleasurable would travel be?

Closer to my budget, but *sigh*, I’m sorry, just not quite the same is this suedette brown voyage suitcase from Debenhams, though it is reduced to just £79.99.

If you fancy your luggage a little more whimsical then my favourite “novelty” suitcase choices are (L-R)

Graphite Black Swirl Suitcase £99 Debenhams, Samsonite Green Trolley Case £165 John Lewis, Orla Kiely Small Car Print Suitcase £159.20 Debenhams, Alexander McQueen Hero Upright £450.19 Samsonite Black Labelnovelty

Oh i love vintage luggage. It’s all over the place at thrist stores but I haven’t caved to the lust. I love the new versions-nice and compact!

Pixel Hazard – I always think it looks gorgeous, but the practicalities aren’t there. I need wheels and compartments in my luggage! (or possibly a member of staff to carry it for me?)

would love some vintage luggage but would be worried that it would fall apart on the plane and my undies would be spread all over the conveyer belt thing!?

Know exactly how you all feel !
I was looking for ages for the same thing, now saving to buy a set from these people below (when I can decide which set I want)
New old look leather suitcases with the straps and buckle (so case isn’t going to pop open on the conveyor belt and no worry about zip popping)and has wheels like modern cases!
Not sure how long they will last but as I have spent loads on good quality suitcases before, as soon as baggage handling has battered them, chopped the zips off or zip goes. It doesn’t seem to matter how much I have spent they all last as long.
Down to my last case in a full set now, so going to try these, although they do look to be smaller than I though from the pics.
