Oooh, a cheeky title, get me.
Maybe I’m just in that kind of mood today.
I have been perusing my jewellery box of late as I always see other people accessorising their outfits with fabulous beads and bangles and my pickings are pretty slim. I have a few bits and bobs, but nothing lovely. Nothing that really makes me feel like a princess when I wear it. The closest I have is a white and yellow gold bracelet that Mr Chick bought back from holiday in Turkey for me many years ago and I love.
Then the other day an email landed in my inbox introducing me to Mikimoto Pearls, and offering to sponsor a post, so I went and looked.
So now, not only do I have barely any jewellery, but I also have an aching urge to own yet more gorgeous jewellery I can’t afford. Lets add that to the list that so far includes Todd Reed and Wendy B shall we, thanks *rolls eyes in exasperation*
I do love pearls, fake or real. I never really got the bit in Pretty in Pink where Andie is mocked for her pearl necklace at a party, personally I don’t think pearls date.I have a pair of faux pearl studs, that I wear quite a lot, but, lets face it, they’re not the same….
Pearls are the ultimate in vintage style and the day someone coughs up several hundred pounds and buys me a pair of real pearl earrings I will be a happy Retro Chick.
I mean, what’s not to love about these images?

I’ve always thought Pearls indicate quality, breeding and heritage. Ideally you’ll be given a string of heirloom pearls of course, originally purchased by your great, great grandmother and worn at her coming out ball. Maybe you’ll inherit them along with the Stately Home and stables. Or more likely you’ll just buy your own.
Personally I think these would make a stunning replacement for my current faux pearl studs. And, of course, black pearl, that’s a bit Pirates of the Caribbean…
I’d wear them with this, and then I think I’d feel like the Princess I always knew I was.
I love delicate jewellery normally, though I do occasionally pick chunky stuff for every day, really in my head I imagine myself with an elegant up do and an incredibly expensive, but understated evening dress having a delicate pearl and diamond confection fastened around my neck while I sip champagne. I’m probably in a dimly lit hotel room overlooking the Eiffel Tower while this happens. *sigh*
If you like your pearls a little chunkier or less classic you could do worse than check out the lovely Frankie at Swell Vintage who’s got some gorgeous pieces featuring pearls or check out the Lulu Guinness giveaway winner for a great chunky pearl pendant choice!

Hey my dear…
OK, total shameless plug, but I have some drop-dead amazing costume pearls in my vintage store right now: they’re from about 1960 and they’ve obviously been weighted just right to look and feel exactly like real pearls. They’ve got a lovely display case too AND they’re reduced right now. Just if you’re interested!!

I know what you mean about pearls never dating. They always remind me of my grandmother. She had several pearl necklaces but I think many of them are lost or broken but I’m going to investigate to see if I can find any that survived! My mother wears pearls often and I have some tiny pearl studs that go with everything (but which I lost one of and am going to have to replace
). I also have some cheap pearl bracelets from Pennys/Primark and Oxfam and a pale pink pearl necklace that I don’t wear it as much as I should. I also have some oversized earrings as does my sister. I think pearls are making a comeback due to shows like Gossip Girl. From what I’ve seen pearl earrings and hairbands have become really popular in the last while. I’d keep an eye on the high street until I can afford some real ones if I were you! xx
