Today is World Aids Day. The first World Aids Day I remember was back in the mid 90s when I was at College and the sad fact is, that despite a global downward trend in new AIDS cases, in the UK new cases have trebled in the last decade.
Now, this is a fashion (and occasional random witterings) blog, so I don’t intend to use it to lecture you on protecting yourself against HIV and AIDS. Just remember it’s your responsibility to protect yourself and hormonal contraceptives don’t protect against STDs of any kind. To read more about HIV and AIDS visit the World Aids Day website.
Another area of the world that struggles with AIDS is Africa. Approximately 67% of the worlds cases of AIDS are in sub-Saharan Africa and 55% of those cases are Women. The availability of treatment and education in Africa is no where near as good as in developed countries. So when you’re educating yourself about preventing the spread of AIDS in the UK spare a thought for those that aren’t so lucky.
WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP?
Well, you can shop…..
Many brands have developed (RED) branded products, part of the proceeds of the sale of these items are donated to the Global fund to fight AIDS in Africa.
You can see them all and details of where to buy in the (RED) shop, but here’s a selection of my favourites.
There's 12 different styles of (PRODUCT) RED Converse, but these cute apple print ones are my favourites.
If I had the money to buy an Armani blouse I would buy this one so I could feel less guilty about spending all that money on it...
Solange Azagury–Partridge designed this special version of her Hotlips ring for (RED) with "(SAP hearts)RED" imprinted on the back. Gorgeous and iconic.

It’s wonderful when our love of fashion can also do good.
