When Two Worlds Collide – Fashion Loves Beer

Ah, my 2 favourite things, fashion and beer. Don’t you just love it when a plan comes together?

I’ve been a CAMRA member for over a year now, so I’m already well aware of how nice beer is. Generally I just look on beer glasses as a container for my beer. I like them clean and I get a little over excited if I’m served a branded glass. That being said, one of my favourite local bars is the Belgian Monk where my expensive and strong Belgian Beers are served up to me in any number of ingenious glasses printed with tiny pink elephants or with a large wooden handle depending on the brand.

It seems that 31% of Women actually think beer glasses are ugly, not just that they could be prettier, but that they are actually “ugly and manly”. So maybe one of the ways to get Women to experiement more with all those tasty beers is to give them something pretty to drink out of?

Would you drink more beer if it came in nicer glasses?

Yesterday, courtesy of @CupCate on Twitter I spotted the Bittersweet Partnership and PPQ‘s attempt to bring a bit of beauty to our beer drinking experience.

Amy Molyneaux, Co founder of PPQ, has set about “creating shapes that enhance the flavours of the beer and also look cool” there’s no stereotypical girliness in these glasses. No cheesy pictures of shoes and handbags printed on the outside or pink glitter. Just stylish shapes and classy patterns.

There are 4 potential glass shapes and 4 potential designs to chose from and Bittersweet Partnership are asking you to vote on your favourite. When you vote you’ll also get the chance to win your own glass plus £150 of ASOS vouchers to spend on some lovely PPQ clothing. The winning design will be put into production next year.

For the record I voted for the Syris Frosted. I like the classic shape and the frosted outside makes me think the beer inside is colder! I also love that little delicate swirly design at the bottom.

Syris frostedI also have a little soft spot for the Tutu Black as well. I’m not normally a fan of coloured glass, but I like the drama of the black and gold. It feels like a perfect Christmas beer glass to me (Current favourite Christmas beer is Shepherd Neame, though a bit of a soft spot for Rudolf the Red Nose White Horse Beer, mostly because of it’s name)
