Nominations for the 2010 Observer Ethical Fashion Awards are now open.
The awards have been running for 5 years and as well as categories for best online and local retailer they also have a specific Fashion and Accessories category, sponsored by Marie Claire.
Past winners in this category have included People Tree, Finisterre and Terra Plana, but the massive boom in ethical fashion means the field is wide open for some exciting new talent. You can’t nominate your favourite yourself in this category as they want all kinds of business details, but you can always poke your favourite ethical fashion label yourself and encourage them to nominate themselves.
The winner will be judged by a panel that includes Sue Perkins (who I love, but I don’t know her ethical credentials?) Jo Wood from Jo Wood Organics, Dilys Williams from the London College of Fashion and Jayne Pickering from Marie Claire.
You can nominate your favourite online, or offline, retailer for an award, however. Voting enters you into a draw to win some yummy prizes, including a rail tour of Provence and a luxury stay at the Nare in Cornwall. If you need inspiration my ethical design series is a good place to start!
In the mean time check out this video of last years awards to get an idea what it’s all about.

This looks great– I will have to check it out! I wish I knew more ethical designers. They are constantly surprising me with their design techniques. One day, all design will be ethical.
