Are You A Pink Lady?

I don’t mean this kind of pink lady. I’d LOVE to be this kind of pink lady.

I mean a lady who likes pink. I have to admit to not being, really. Though I said that to someone I worked with when I was a professional IT geek and he looked at me disbelievingly and then pointed out that the multi tool I had just pulled from my handbag to undo a screw was pink. I have since established that sometimes I like things that are meant for boys to be in pink, to give them a girl twist.

You might have seen this on a few other blogs recently. But I got an email from Fiat asking me my address as they’d like to send me something. I happily obliged, maybe secretly hoping that they’d send me a car. Though what I’d do with it if they did I’m not sure as I can’t drive (tried it, didn’t like it)

What they actually sent me was this:

I assume they are trying to make their new pink Fiat 500 appeal to women and this is why they wanted to send me the pack. I have to confess to being keener on the USB stick (which is always a handy thing to have) than the nail polish, OR the pink car, but I gave it a try (the nail polish, not the car).

At first I kind of liked the Candy Pink colour, but the more I look at it the more, well PINK, it is and I might have to take it off before it makes me nauseous.

I think the way they’ve targeted this at bloggers is brilliant. They’ve provided pictures, and a gift, giving bloggers something to write about (as evidenced by the fact that I have written this) Personally, I’m not keen on the pink car. Sorry. Though if you were the kind of person who would like a pink car then I think that you would LOVE this one.

What do you think?

Do you like the pink nail polish?

Do you like the pink car?

They’ve actually got a competition running too (not sure of expiry) to be in the ad and paint the car with the nail varnish.

The car doesn’t look too bad but I certainly wouldn’t go for pink… unless I turn into Lady Penelope :)

Oh have they? I have looked that closely at the website. I don’t think I want to paint a car with nail varnish, it sounds like a lot of work!

Fiona - Notorious Kitsch January 28, 2010 at 3:25 pm

nope I’m not a pink girl at all, and I would be mortified if I had to drive a pink car, I’m more a red or green gal!

Retro Chick January 28, 2010 at 4:52 pm

I’m a black car gal myself. Not that I can drive, obviously!

janey January 28, 2010 at 3:46 pm

I have this car, but they is no way I would ever have it in pink! I don’t think Fiat need to make this car more ‘girly’ as my man said it’s already a woman’s car! But I don’t care, as I love my new wheels…

Retro Chick January 28, 2010 at 4:53 pm

It’s a nice car then? There’s nothing wrong with a girls car! I think the pink would definitely stand out!

janey January 28, 2010 at 6:52 pm

yes, its a fab car, great to drive I love it! And your right, nothing wrong with a girls car-just as long as it’s not pink!

nooooo way would i drive this. I am not Lady Penelope and neither do i want to be. :) I do think it stereotypes us girls a bit too. not all of us like pink! :) x

Retro Chick January 28, 2010 at 4:54 pm

I have that issue with pink too. “Girls like pink” is a bit too easy!

Maddy January 28, 2010 at 5:38 pm

I’m not a pink girl AT ALL! But at least you got a cool looking USB out of it :o )

during my teenage years, I went through a long “i hate pink” phase. Then I realized all the wonders that wearing the right shade of pink can do for you complexion and now I think pink can be fun. That being said, this particular shade of pink seems a little too pepto bismol to me and although I would entertain the idea of pink polish, I think a pink car is a little too much for me.

Mademoiselle Robot January 28, 2010 at 9:23 pm

Yep got that one too the other day. To write about a car, I’d need to see the car, not nail polish.
I just spoke today at a conference about bloggers relationships with brands and I think this would be a good example of beside the point campaign.

I think it depends on the aim of the campaign. Essentially I’ve written about nail polish and mentioned the car as that’s where it came from. If that was the aim, just to get mentioned, then mission accomplished! I can only tell you about nail polish and a pretty box though. Not the car. And I probably find the idea that a nail polish will sell cars to women a bit patronizing. So if the aim was to get me to sell the car for them then it’s a fail!

thinking a bit further I want to clarify my comment about the approach to Bloggers. What I think was good about this was that they provided digital images and information. How many times have I had lookbooks full of beautiful pictures I can’t use as I can’t find them in a digital format. I didn’t use the car pics because I have nothing to say about a car, but the targeted approach specifically at bloggers was good I think. The information was easy to find.

Never been into pink. It makes me look ill and I’m too cynical to be girly. The right shade of purple, however, has been known to creep into my wardrobe.

Such a great way of including the blogging community. Not sure about the Pink but definitely one way for Fiat to get their new cars noticed!

I am definitely a pink girk, but I would never, ever, buy a pink car! I like little splashes of pink colour, or one statement piece, such as my coat. The car doesn’t count as statement piece ;)

Intrinsically Florrie January 29, 2010 at 11:19 pm

I love pink! Especially nail polish and florals.
When I see a pink car, being a pink lover I think- wow pink car!! But then it isn’t always that nice and the majority of them aren’t.
I do like the look of this one though. :)

Sorry daughter, but I most certainly would love to have the pink car. It would be a brilliant topic of conversation parked in the working mens’ club where I work.:-)

Treacle January 31, 2010 at 3:11 am

Hmmm…I’m not really one for pink, and nail polish has never been thing. This shade reminds me a bit of Pepto-Bismol (a stomach medicine) actually.

Can’t stand pink I havent one item of pink in my wardrobe, I have never even dressed my daughter in it, despite all the pink bootees and dresses I received. Wonder why a car would appeal to many women being that colour, not me!!
I will eat pink food and thats my only concession.

Yukino February 9, 2010 at 9:18 pm

Incidentally, nail polish is one of the rare ways I ever wear pink.
