Ah, August, will it be sunny and lovely or a rainy wash out?
Only time will tell. But whatever the weather there is LOADS going on in Norwich and it’s surrounds to keep you entertained! This month we have everything from short lunch time performances outside the Forum, to a full weekend of WW2 style entertainment at Gressenhall.

If you live in Norwich or surrounding areas then you should keep an eye on my Norwich Events Page for listings of performances, events and general goings that might be of interest, or maybe you’re organising an event in Norfolk or Norwich that you think Retro Chick readers might be interested in? If so then just drop me a line using the “contact me” link at the top of the page!

Village at War: Glitz and the Blitz
10:00 @ Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse, Gressenhall
Join in this great family day out and discover what the Home Front was like for those living in Norfolk.
From the moment you step onto this fantastic 50 acre site you will need to watch out for the Home Guard patrols who will check that your ID papers are in order as you make your way around. If the Drill Sergeant catches you dawdling you may well find yourself on the drill ground being taught to keep in line! And of course, make sure the children get to the village shop to claim their sweet ration before the Sergeant gets his hand on you!
Come and have a look at the “Glitz” marquee and get an idea of what the fashions of the moment were – learn how to get that Clark Gable look, see how today’s hairstyles can be transformed into a “Victory Roll” and why not top it off with a hat from the 40s from our millinery section? There will be costumes from the 1940s to handle and reminisce over and music from “Timescape” will take you back to a different era.
In the Gressenhall “cinema” film footage of East Anglia during the war years will set the scene and there will be a chance to hear from some of the original Women’s Land Army veterans as they talk about their work. Down on the farm you can meet some of our WLA enactors who will be helping to bring in the harvest and you can try your hand at some tests to see if you were fit enough to join the WLA or Timber Jills! The village fete will be in full swing and the fairground rides will whisk you away!
Veteran cars and military vehicles will be on site, WW2 soldiers will be keeping an eye out for enemy agents and our cookery expert will be dishing up some of the favourite dishes of the day! Plus the Battle of Britain Memorial flight is due to fly over on Bank Holiday Monday (weather permitting).
Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse 29th & 30th August
Adult: £8.40
Concession*: £7.10
